Eligibility and Requirements
Child benefits, known as Kindergeld, are a monthly payment provided by the German government to parents or guardians of eligible children. To qualify for Kindergeld, the following criteria must be met:
Eligibility Criteria
- The child must be under 18 years of age (or under 25 years of age if in education or training).
- The child must live in Germany or have a guardian who is resident in Germany.
- The parent or guardian must have custody of the child.
- The monthly income of the parent or guardian must not exceed a certain threshold.
Amount of Child Benefits
The amount of Kindergeld is determined by the number of eligible children in a family:
- First child: €219 per month
- Second child: €225 per month
- Third child: €231 per month
- Fourth and subsequent children: €250 per month
