Aurora Borealis Florida Tonight

Northern Lights Expected to Put on a Show Tonight and Tomorrow Night

When and Where to See the Aurora Borealis

The Northern Lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are a natural light display in the sky, primarily visible at high latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). Aurora borealis are caused by the interaction of charged particles from the solar wind with the Earth's magnetic field. The solar wind is a stream of charged particles released from the Sun's atmosphere. These particles travel through space and interact with the Earth's magnetic field, which deflects most of them away from the Earth. However, some of these particles can enter the Earth's atmosphere near the magnetic poles and interact with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere, causing them to emit light. The color of the aurora depends on the type of atoms and molecules that are interacting with the charged particles.

Best Viewing Conditions

The Northern Lights are best viewed on clear, dark nights, away from city lights. The best time to see the aurora is typically during the winter months, when the nights are longer and the sky is darker. The aurora can be seen in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, but it is more common in the Northern Hemisphere. To see the aurora, find a dark spot away from city lights and look towards the northern horizon. The aurora can appear as a faint glow, or as bright, dancing curtains of light.
